What is Backpacks and Bedrolls?

Backpacks and Bedrolls is a live-action roleplaying game set in a whimsical high fantasy world. Inspired by tabletop RPGs, video games, fantasy films, and Isekai anime, the game focuses on character-driven storytelling, over-the-top action, and lighthearted fun.

Players take on the roles of adventurers working for guilds, climbing through ranks, accepting quests, and facing off against monsters, magical nonsense, and the mysterious threat of the Demon Lord. It is a love letter to fantasy tropes with a playful twist.

The game is currently designed for adults 18 and older, but with enough community support, we hope to bring back Kids BnB as well. Our goal is to offer at least one family-friendly event each year where younger adventurers can join the fun.

Why We Need Your Help

To bring Backpacks and Bedrolls back to life, we are raising funds for:

• Costumes and visual design elements
• Props and foam weaponry
• Rulebook development, quest modules, and support software
• Environmental set dressing and gear
• Volunteer support and site supplies

We need a minimum of $2,000 to launch the basic version of the game. If we reach our dream goal of $5,000, we can offer an immersive, high-quality experience with full features and support for larger events.

Reputation Points Work Here Too

If you are a player from Afterworlds, you will be happy to know that RP (Reputation Points) are valid in Backpacks and Bedrolls as well. RP is a cross-game currency earned by players, not characters. You can spend your RP in either game world.

Hi! I'm Udo. I’m the lead developer behind Afterworlds, a post-apocalyptic LARP that has been running strong for almost 13 years. I created the Flag Tag LARP system, which is designed to be fast-paced, immersive, and easy to learn. With Backpacks and Bedrolls, I’m bringing the same love for worldbuilding and community into a lighthearted fantasy setting full of jokes, magic, and memorable moments.

FAQ

Is this game for kids?
Not yet. The main game is 18 and up, but we hope to bring back Kids BnB as a yearly event if funding and interest allow.

Do I need experience to play?
Not at all. The game is beginner-friendly and great for players of all skill levels.

Where will games be held?
We plan to run events in the same area as Afterworlds. The location is just outside of Eugene Or, in the quaint hamlet of Noti.

Can I use RP from Afterworlds in BnB?
Yes. RP is earned by you as a player, and it can be used in either Afterworlds or Backpacks and Bedrolls.

Is this game full PVP like Afterworlds?
No. BnB has PVP opportunities (barfight events, an arena, etc.), but it is a PVE game. This will provide a much more laid back and leisurely event.
